Hi this is Simon.
I am sure that many of you are wondering why you have not seen any new posts from Penny, recently. Unfortunately, Penny has landed in one of the intensive care units (SICU) at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Hospital, Chapel Hill, with an extremely severe case of pneumonia. She was transferred here from the hospital in New Bern in a critical care ambulance last week because she needed more extensive treatment than could be provided at our local hospital. I expect it will be several weeks before she will take up the reins again with a regular posting schedule. However, I am pleased to say that since she has been at UNC I have seen very slow but steady improvements in her condition.
I hope that during this quite period you will maintain your subscription. If time and energy permits I may try to do a couple of posts in the interim – articles that I had promised that I would write but never delivered.
Penny. Hope you are on the recovery road. I have been praying for you. Wish you could join me and the others in Otranto for Speak one week from today, then in Spain at Jaraba, near Barcelona and Zaragosa with Vaughan, followed by Istanbul, on my own, with a guide for 3 days, 6 days total. And London for 7!! You travel bug and determination has bit me for sure.
Love to a good lady.

Thank you, HJ. I definitely am on the mend, and your prayers and good wishes were definitely appreciated. Sounds like quite a busy travel schedule you’ve got there. Simon and I will be volunteering at Angloville in Romania in September, so this will be a new experience for us.
I’m so sorry to hear that Penny’s been ill! Wishing her a quick recovery!
Thank you all for your kind words and good wishes. Penny has now been transferred out of SICU into the medical ICU and we are definitely seeing some positive improvements daily. However, I suspect the recovery process will still take awhile.
Simon, This is Sally… I am sorry to learn of Penny’s illness, but glad that she is on the mend. I will keep her in my prayers. I just returned a week ago from Israel and I had a marvelous time.
Keep the updates coming! We were wondering how she is
Thank you Simon! We so appreciate your consideration in sending along this update. Give Penny a hug and love!!
It seems that all the thoughts and prayers being sent to Penny may be having an impact on her recovery. We all look forward to her steady improvement and return!
I’m very sorry to hear that Penny is so ill. I’ll be thinking of you both and wishing Penny a speedy recovery.
